What size paddleboard do I need?
The sun is finally here, so there’s no better time to get on the river and soak up the rays.
One of the most popular forms of river transport last year was by paddleboard.
The peaceful scenery of the river Waveney can be truly appreciated by kayak or paddleboard, with several places along the river to hire you chosen raft.
For some of us the summer is all about spending time on the river, so if you are thinking about buying your own paddleboard rather than hiring again this year, there’s a few things to consider.
What size paddleboard do you need?
This is really a lot simpler than you may think. Whether you are buying or hiring, there are two main things to consider when choosing the right size paddle board; your height and weight.
Each paddleboard comes with its own specifications on the ideal height and weight. The first rule is to never exceed the recommended weight for the board. The obvious reason being it might sink!
At sportstore our general recommendations are as follows:
If you are between 5ft and 5ft 9, then a 10ft or 10ft 6 paddleboard is going to be best for you.
If you are over 5ft 10, then a 10ft 10 or 11ft paddleboard is going to be better.
What about the 12ft paddle boards?
Good question. The 12ft boards are designed to be touring boards. They are ideal for long sessions on the river as they are easy to keep straight. This means you use a lot less energy on the water allowing for long distance paddles.
Now whether your going for a Sandbanks, a Two Bare Feet or a Pointbreak, it’s always important to check their individual specifications as well.
Or you can head into SportStore and ask our team, who would gladly help you.
So whether your hiring or buying this year, you can now know the basics of which paddleboard size is best for you.
